Cookie policy

Pages on Sudoku Online do not set cookies for visitors. The game stores your settings, board, statistics and consent choice in your browser’s local storage. Cookies from Google can appear only if you allow Google Analytics or advertising, or if you are in a region where they load by default.

This page lists what is stored and how to change it. It was last updated on 28 October 2026.

What is the difference between cookies and local storage?

Cookies are small files that a website or a third party places in your browser and that are sent back with later requests. Local storage is a space in your browser that a page can read and write only on your own device, and its contents are not sent anywhere unless a page sends them. This site uses local storage for the game and does not use first-party cookies for visitors.

What does the site store on your device?

Information stored by the site itself
WhatWherePurposeHow long
Game settingsLocal storageRemember options such as theme, large digits and mistake feedbackUntil you clear the site’s data
Saved boardLocal storageLet a paused or interrupted game resumeUntil you finish, start another or clear data
Statistics and daily streakLocal storageShow your results and streakUntil you clear the site’s data
Consent choice (so:consent)Local storageRemember whether you accepted analytics and advertisingUntil you change it or clear data

None of this is sent to us. The site’s own event counting uses no cookies and no identifiers, and it is described in the privacy policy.

Which cookies can appear from Google?

Cookies that may be set by third parties
ProviderPurposeWhen it can appear
Google AnalyticsMeasure how the site is used, using cookies such as _ga and one named after the property, which last up to two years by defaultAfter you agree, where consent is required; elsewhere unless you decline or send Global Privacy Control
Google AdSense and its advertising partnersServe and measure ads and, if allowed, personalize themOnly when advertising is on and your choices allow it; in the EEA, UK and Switzerland also only after Google’s consent message is accepted

The exact cookies and their lifetimes are set by Google and can change, so this page describes them by purpose. Google publishes details in its own documentation.

What about staff?

People who run the site sign in with an account, which sets a session cookie, so_session, that is used only for staff and is not set for visitors.

How can you change your choices?

Declining analytics or advertising does not stop you from playing, and it does not remove the game’s own local storage.
